Galle Dialogue: International Maritime Conference

The Galle Dialogue: International Maritime Conference was inaugurated by the Sri Lanka Navy in 2010 under the patronage of the Ministry of Defence. The primary objective of the conference is to provide a common platform for national and international stakeholders to discuss and deliberate on maritime-related issues. Furthermore, it aims to specifically enhance maritime security cooperation and promote the sharing of knowledge and information among participants.

The Indian Ocean is emerging as one of the most strategically significant maritime domains in the world. As a vital corridor for global trade, energy transport, and economic connectivity, its maritime outlook is increasingly shaped by evolving geopolitical, economic, and environmental dynamics. With a growing volume of shipping traffic, including vital energy routes and containerized trade, the Indian Ocean serves as a critical link in the global supply chain.

In recent years, the region has witnessed increased naval activity and maritime infrastructure development, reflecting the rising interest of regional and extra-regional powers. The expansion of naval capabilities, the establishment of ports and logistics hubs, and the deployment of maritime assets signal a growing competition for influence and access in this strategically important space.

In this backdrop, the Sri Lanka Navy is privileged to organize this significant event that aims at strengthening the regional maritime cooperation and formulating a global strategy to face common challenges in the maritime domain.

This year’s conference is scheduled to take place on the 24^th and 25^thSeptember 2025 at the Wave n' Lake Navy Hall, located in Colombo, the largest city and commercial capital of Sri Lanka.
